So the AdAge video covers Mommy Blogs. The interviewee writes a comment that the interview is great. What could be wrong? Check out the patronizing background of bottles and Teddy Bears. This arouses those of us who just said “no” to bottle feeding and nursed our kids, and it riles the mom bloggers who don’t want to draw a division between stay-at-home moms and those who choose to work. This was not a marketer in touch with the subject of his report. Check out the video, but be sure to read the comments.

Simon Dumenco in AdAge Sees Media’s Future Clearly

Everyone quotes Stewart Brand of the Whole Earth Catalog, “information wants to be cheap” but Dumenco recalls the whole quote, which summarizes where we stand in journalism and the media business today.
Here’s the whole thing that Brand said at the first the first Hackers’ Conference about 25 years ago. “Information also wants to be expensive. Information wants to be free because it has become so cheap to distribute, copy and recombine — too cheap to meter. It wants to be expensive because it can be immeasurably valuable to the recipient. That tension will not go away. It leads to endless, wrenching debate about price, copyright, intellectual property, the moral rightness of casual distribution, because each round of new devices makes the tension worse, not better.”
Thus, you will get a free netbook, with a paid subscription to an online info service. The Detroit Free Press and e-book producer Plastic Logic will announce a model like this in 2009 or early 2010.

SMART Table in my Classroom – Pass Me That Video | Space for me to explore
Okay, I have been known to write about the “big ass table” in sarcastic posts. I was set to let loose on it again, but here is an elementary teacher who has used the device in a literacy project. When the table is used with thought and appropriately, it demonstrates that the media is the message. The process of working with the archival materials is transformed into a new kind of learning experience because of the interaction of content with medium.
Students viewed and organized archival videos and images of Victorian England on the SMART table, and Tom Barrett, the teacher who is blogging about using the table observes, “It is the blurring of that physical and digital space that I am intrigued with. The children passed each other video footage.”

He continues, “It is the heightened sense of access and of sharing the digital imagery, combined with the fluid resize, rotate and placement controls you have that makes it a powerful learning tool.”

PEJ is launching the New Media Index as a companion to its weekly News Coverage Index. Blogs and other new media are an important part of creating today’s news information narrative and in shaping the way Americans interact with the news. The expansion of online blogs and other social media sites has allowed news-consumers and others outside the mainstream press to have more of a role in agenda setting, dissemination and interpretation. PEJ wanted to find out what subjects in the national news the online sites focus on, and how that compared with the narrative in the traditional press.
